Sailfish and Tunas Off Key West

Tunas and sailfish are being caught off Key West this past week. We are looking forward to the Full Moon On Monday after Thanksgiving.

Deep Sea Fishing Report

Its middle of November in 2023.. As we come into Thanksgiving week do you know where your sailfish and blackfin Tunas are? The captains deep sea fishing off of Key West certainly do. This past week has been pretty fruitful offshore deep sea fishing off Key West. With some shaky weather and a no name hurricane that formed right over our heads earlier in the week the weather has sorted out and made it fish able again.

As is typical this time of the year the runs are short and the fishing is good just past the reef. Not a whole lot of current to speak of in side 300 feet but the water quality has been good. Earlier in the week we had a decent color change in 300ft. The sailfish were caught yesterday in less than 300 feet of water says Capt. Steven on board the “InXS” where he and his first mate Garrett landed a nice one for their anglers.

The crew on board the INXS show off a nice sailfish.

Because of the shorter runs the boats this time of the year get started fishing just past the reef. This gives the anglers more time to fish on any given trip especially popular with the 4 and 6 hour deep sea fishing charters.

The early mornings have been very good for the tuna bite. Some of the boats have been getting underway at 6 or 6:30 am and to get to the blackfin tunas before they go deep and stop the bite. A not so super popular choice for some anglers is departing to go fishing later in the afternoon for the evening tuna bite right before sunset.

During the day anything goes. Depending on the winds it can be good for sailfish or mahi. North winds tend to slow the mahi bite a bit. One of our boats this week whacked the mahi off the color change in 300 ft of water. All you could want was the quote from Capt. Steve on the Deep Sea fishing charter Sea Clusion.  Rest assured each boat is set up and ready for anything that can happen out there.

Friday looks like a shot at some light rain with a beautiful weekend in store till Monday the 27th where we will get some stiffer winds again from the East starting Monday (full Moon) through Tuesday at the end of our long range forecast period…

Pro Tips

There are many restaurants that will gladly cook your catch.. Check out Island Genns blog article about Key West Hook And Cook Your Catch restaurants.

Keep that full moon in mind as that is a Wahoo moon here in Key West and a good potential for a better shot at some wahoo.. Our deep sea fishing charters here in Key West will certainly have that in mind. The deep sea fishing will be “enhanced” a few days before and couple days after the full moon. We are thinking it will be pretty damn good..
